Enrichment

For our Preschool and Pre-K Programs*

*Activities are scheduled according to availability.

Gooch N’ Swim – fee required

Once each week, as a component of the Pre-K program, each Pre-K class goes to the YMCA of Talbot County for Gooch N’ Swim. The children first enjoy the Y’s Gooch Family Play Center, where the children climb, crawl, slide, and explore the multi-level play structure. If the gym is available, the children also engage in large motor skill activities using equipment such as balls and scooters.

The children then get ready and go to the pool.  In the caring and experienced hands of the YMCA swim instructors, the children gain confidence in the water, advance their swimming skills, acquire water safety skills, and have fun with water activities.

Library

Monthly, our Pre-K classes attend Library Hour with the children’s librarian at the Talbot County Free Public Library in Easton.

Our Center’s library contains over 4,000 children’s books, big books, and book tapes, CDs and DVDs.

Inter-Generational Visits

There are benefits gained for young and old alike when children interact with their elders.

For monthly visits, as well as holidays and other special occasions, we take our Pre-K classes to Bayleigh Chase and our Threes classes to nearby Bayleigh Chase Assisted Living. Both the children and residents share time and enjoy each other’s company during story reading, singing songs, and eating treats.

Visiting “Teachers”

Children of all age groups enjoy on-site visits from family, friends, and community members who describe, and often demonstrate, their professions, hobbies, and talents from such diverse fields as a volcanology, horticulture, art, and social work.

Music and Motion

Our Music & Motion Program is a child-focused journey where our children get the opportunity to feel and move to the music through exploration of instruments, scarves, dance, and singing. The children participate weekly in a music and movement experience developmentally appropriate for children 1-4 years old with the instructor and teachers. Every class has a beginning, middle, and end with transitions between each activity that make the class flow and full of fun and energy.

In the spring, the children present some samples of what they have learned in a performance for their families.

Soccer – an optional, weekly enrichment opportunity; fee required

Our soccer enrichment program is designed for kids ages 2 through 5. Throughout the lessons, the children to sing songs and play games while enhancing their motor skills, soccer skills, and learning other valuable lessons about sports and teamwork!
